Okay, so for those that don't know what tithing is, I'm going to explain it as simply as I can. Tithing is when you take whatever you make, big or small, and donate 10% (or whatever figure you'd like, but commonly it is 10%) to your church. If you just said to yourself, "Geez, Tara, I can't even pay my bills and now you want to talk to me about donating 10% of it to my church...you're crazy!" I understand, because I have been there too. And if you don't have a church, or you're not religious, that's okay too - I'm sure there are tons of outreaches in your neighborhood for the less fortunate that would love to be the recipient of your tithing. We personally chose our children's school, as it is a Catholic school and we wanted our money to stay in our area and work for those that we care about here.
January 2016 was the first month I got a sizable commission check from Poofy Organics, and I sat down and told my husband that I wanted to do something really awesome with it. So, I took our 10% into the school and asked to talk to the principle so I could explain the donation to her, and even though 10% of my commission wasn't anything for a school to write home about, she was thrilled with our decision. Our school only has about 130 students from Pre-K the whole way up to 8th grade, so literally every penny counts when it comes to their budget. I have also wanted to become more involved this year at the school, and though I have done that with coaching my sons' soccer team, I love that I'm putting my money where my mouth is and donating more financially as well.
And you want to know what the craziest thing about tithing is? The second we started doing it, things started seriously looking up for us! USAA called and said that they were sending us a check for over $700 for a car accident that happened months ago, and then my accountant called and told us that we weren't going to owe on taxes this year. No, we were getting back more than I've ever gotten back before due to the Earned Income Credit! And it didn't stop there - I had an in-home Poofy Organics party and each person that came placed an order and set the hostess up for rewards, and then outside orders came in for the hostess as well. And then, to top it all off, I took my son to a birthday party today and created a working relationship with the birthday boy's sweet mom! Crazy, right? Nope, that's God working in our sweet financial favor!
We will be absolutely continuing to tithe at our school! We love that God is making our money work within our community! And, it really makes me feel even better about selling Poofy Organics products - not only am I selling these amazing, handmade self-care, family-care, and home-care products with the highest quality organic ingredients, but each purchase helps my children play sports and go to school, AND 130 other kids have better things in the school as well too!
