I've been baking my butt off these past couple weeks - my kitchen has been smelling of sweet bread and muffins lately! Have I been eating my amazing creations? Of course! Here's some tips to help you enjoy some guilt-free sweets! :)
There is a rule in my house - if I want to eat sweets, I have to make them. Of course, this is partly to resist eating too many sweets because I have to really want it to actually bake it. The other part is so that I know what is in my food. I do not use refined sugar or bleached flour. I use all organic ingredients. I often substitute honey for sugar. Not only do my baked goods taste better, but they're better for me too!
I add healthy ingredients.
I made muffins the other day and added strawberry and banana puree. When I make ziti, I add veggies to my sauce. My kids are none the wiser!
I do it by hand.
Last year, my husband borrowed a bread maker from a coworker to see if I would like it. The truth is, I used it one time. I didn't like it. There's something about kneading your own bread yourself rather than throwing all the ingredients together and hoping that the machine gets it right.
Every time I bake, I send some to work with my husband to share with some of his lucky coworkers. They give me feedback about my recipes - if I should continue to use them or if they need more work. And besides, everyone deserves a little love, right?
I don't miss my workouts.
I still have to earn those sweets, right?! Of course! And when I get my workouts in, I don't worry about eating organic sweets with lots of fruit and veggies - we are supposed to enjoy life, right?
