Does the thought of putting your personal thoughts and information on social media, or any place on the internet for that matter, give you the creeps? You're not alone out there! Believe it or not, there's a ton that you don't know about me!
Funny enough, I'm willing to post just about anything for a good laugh. From face-swaps with my husband to wearing the Poofy Organics mud mask, there's not much that is off-limits when it comes to the ridiculous things I will post to make my friends smile. My anxiety hits when things become personal - whenever I publish a personal essay you'll be able to find me under the nearest rock waiting for whenever it's safe to come out again.
So why do I do it? Why do I publish the super-ultra personal essays that I write? Well, I have been writing personal essays since about 3rd grade. I have found healing in writing them, and they have been able to help bring me closure. I feel that not publishing the "good ones" for others to read would be a disservice to my brand and the people I care about.
Wait, my brand? Yes, my brand. I am my brand. My personal thoughts are my brand. My essays are a part of my brand.
Brand - noun.
1. a type of product manufactured by a particular company under a particular name.
"a new brand of detergent"
2. an identifying mark burned on livestock or (especially formerly) criminals or slaves with a branding iron.
"the brand on a sheep"
From my annoyingly large sunglasses and pale skin to my goofy personality and longwinded essays, I am my brand. When you think of me, these are the things I want people to think about, and if getting a little uncomfortable on social media helps with my personal branding, I'm cool with that. However, I will not be sharing my favorite brother's middle name, the street I grew up on, or the name of my first dog. (Sorry, not sorry, credit thieves!)
